MedVoyage Global × Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital — Guangdong, China

The cancer technology you were told to fly to America for. Ninety minutes from Hong Kong.

CyberKnife robotic radiosurgery. CAR-T cell therapy. da Vinci Xi robotic surgery. PET-CT staging. All of it inside one Grade-A tertiary hospital that has been ranked the number one private hospital in China for eight consecutive years — and all of it priced in the open.

The Hospital

A 1,750-bed teaching hospital that happens to be privately run.

Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital was established in 1958 and is a large Grade-A tertiary general hospital combining treatment, rehabilitation, research and teaching. It is the flagship hospital of Fosun Health, and it holds the number one national ranking among private hospitals in China — a position it has held for eight consecutive years.

It runs 27 key specialty projects across 22 specialties, and holds national certification for five critical-care centres: chest pain, stroke, trauma, maternal critical care and neonatal critical care.

Precision Oncology

Four machines that decide whether a case is worth travelling for.

Plenty of hospitals treat cancer. Far fewer hold this particular combination of equipment under one roof — and for certain diagnoses, that combination is the entire reason to get on a plane.

The Accuray CyberKnife M6 robotic radiosurgery system at Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital

CyberKnife M6

Robotic radiosurgery · 0.1 mm precision

  • Installed June 2022 — the first in Foshan and one of only four in South China.
  • Nearly 1,300 tumour radiotherapy cases completed to date.
  • Targets solid tumours anywhere in the body without an incision.

PET-CT

Whole-body staging in about 20 minutes

  • Full-body scan used for staging, restaging and treatment-response assessment.
  • Paired with Siemens dual-source CT and 3.0T / 1.5T MRI on the same campus.
  • Pain-free and expedited — results feed straight into the MDT discussion.
CAR-T Cell Therapy

The one-shot treatment for lymphoma that has run out of options.

This was the first designated CAR-T centre in Foshan, and the fourth partner centre in Guangdong — alongside Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center and Nanfang Hospital. Your own T-cells are collected, re-engineered to recognise the cancer, and infused back.

It is indicated for adults with relapsed or refractory large B-cell lymphoma after two or more previous lines of systemic therapy. It is not a first-line treatment, and it is not for everyone — but for the patients it fits, there is often nothing else left.

The Precision Oncology Center

Several of them trained and practised in the United States.

The centre convenes international multidisciplinary team consultations for challenging cases. Equipment is only ever half the story — these are the people who decide how it gets used.

Indicative Costs

Most hospitals will not put this on a public page. Here it is.

These are the hospital’s own indicative figures for oncology, converted at a rate of CNY 6.8 to USD 1. They assume a straightforward case — a patient with the condition needing treatment and no other chronic disease or complications. They are a starting point for a conversation, not a bill.

CyberKnife — not included: Chemotherapy, immunotherapy, symptom-management medication, pre-treatment confirmation scans and post-treatment follow-up scans are charged separately.

CAR-T — not included: Severe adverse events, ICU admission, infections, additional interventions and bridging therapy are charged separately.

All prices are quotations for reference only and do not constitute final billing. The final cost is governed by the official invoice issued by the hospital. Your own written quotation is prepared only after the oncology team has reviewed your actual medical records — and you will have it in writing before anything proceeds.

Included as Standard

Things you would normally be quoted separately.

A standard single room with private bathroom, air conditioning and television

Standard meals throughout the inpatient stay — regular or halal

One accompanying family member bed in the patient’s room

On-site medical interpretation for key medical conversations — ward rounds, pre-operative consultations and discharge instructions (not 24/7)

Translation of discharge documents into English — main diagnosis, surgical records and discharge summary

Round-trip transfer from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Guangzhou South Railway Station, or anywhere within the hospital’s city

What Moves the Price

And the honest reasons a final bill comes in higher.

The hospital is upfront about this, and so are we. Additional charges apply in the following situations — none of which can be predicted from a price list alone.

  • Diagnosis, treatment and medication for concurrent conditions such as hypertension, diabetes or heart disease
  • Intraoperative or postoperative complications requiring additional management or ICU admission
  • Additional pre-operative or post-operative examinations
  • Room upgrades, for example to a suite
  • An extended hospital stay because of case complexity

If your case has complicating factors, we would rather tell you before you book a flight than after you land. That is the entire point of a written quotation.

Hong Kong & Macao Access

Drugs and devices that are not otherwise available in mainland China.

In February 2023 the Guangdong Health Commission designated this hospital under the Greater Bay Area scheme permitting urgently needed drugs and devices registered in Hong Kong and Macao to be used on the mainland. It is the only institution in Foshan approved to do so.

Beyond Oncology

The three treasures of Chancheng, and everything built around them.

Long before the oncology centre, this hospital was known for three things: spinal orthopaedics, urology, and its maternal and child centre. Those specialties pulled a cluster of strong departments up with them, and they remain among the most established reasons patients travel here.

Fosun Chancheng International Medical Center

A separate building, built for people who did not grow up here.

FIMC occupies 20,000 square metres with 100 beds, and runs a “general practice plus specialty” co-management model — one doctor holds the thread of your care while specialists are brought in around them. Outpatients, inpatients, health screening, rehabilitation and diagnostics all sit inside the same building.

Over 23,000 international patients from more than 100 countries have been treated here. The lounges, the shared kitchen, the bilingual signage and the English-language reports all exist because those patients needed them.

How It Works

From your first message to your follow-up at home.

Every step runs through MedVoyage Global. You are never left to negotiate with a hospital in a language you do not speak, and you never commit to anything before you have seen the costs in writing.

You or your referring doctor contact MedVoyage Global. Nothing is committed at this stage.

2

MedVoyage intake

We gather your history, imaging and pathology — everything the oncology team will need to assess the case properly.

3

Specialist review in Foshan

The Precision Oncology Center reviews your records, convening an international multidisciplinary team for complex cases.

4

Straight Answers

Questions worth asking before you travel.

No — they are indicative estimates, and the hospital is explicit about that. Each figure assumes a typical patient with no other chronic conditions or complications. Your written quotation is prepared only after the oncology team has reviewed your actual records, and the final amount is always governed by the hospital’s official invoice. We would rather show you an honest starting point than nothing at all.

CAR-T is a personalised cell therapy: your own T-cells are collected, genetically re-engineered to recognise the cancer, and infused back. The quoted figure covers the drug itself, lymphodepletion medication, collection and infusion, safety monitoring and around 25 nights of inpatient care. It is a one-shot treatment for relapsed or refractory large B-cell lymphoma after at least two previous lines of therapy — not a first-line option.

The International Medical Center works with international patients daily — over 23,000 from more than 100 countries so far. Interpretation is provided on-site for key medical conversations such as ward rounds, pre-operative consultations and discharge instructions, and your discharge documents are translated into English. Full-time escort interpretation in English or Japanese is available as a paid upgrade if you want someone with you throughout.

In some cases, yes. This is the only hospital in Foshan approved under the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area scheme allowing urgently needed drugs and devices registered in Hong Kong and Macao to be used. Fifty-two have been introduced so far, treating more than 1,600 patients. Whether it applies to you depends entirely on your diagnosis — we will tell you honestly.

The hospital is in Foshan, in Guangdong Province. It sits about 1.5 hours’ drive from Hong Kong, and transfers are included from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport or Guangzhou South Railway Station. Both are major international arrival points, so most patients connect through them.

Then we will tell you. A specialist review can conclude that travelling is not in your interest — because the treatment is available closer to home, because your case needs something this hospital does not offer, or because you are not well enough to travel. That is a legitimate outcome of an honest assessment, and you are under no obligation at any point.

Possibly. The hospital offers direct billing with more than 30 major commercial insurers worldwide, including several international providers. Send us your policy details during intake and we will check before you travel rather than after.

Send us the diagnosis. We will tell you if this is the right hospital for it.

A price list cannot tell you whether a treatment suits your case. A specialist review can. Share your records with us and the oncology team in Foshan will assess them properly — and if the answer is that you should be treated somewhere else, we will say so.
